Long time between vending machine refills

Alexey Pajitnov (Алексей Пажитнов) was the creator of Tetris. When visiting the US in the eighties, he mentioned how hard it was to get cigarettes in Soviet Russia. A reporter made a comment about a theory that the government was keeping them scarce in order to improve the health of the populace. Pajitnov dryly replied with, "Yes, and they don't give us food in order to keep us from getting fat!"

I've been trying to cut back on soda in an effort to be healthier. While sometimes I really want a Dew in the morning, it seems that those who refill the the vending machines are supporting me in my quest by not restocking the vending machine in the basement of Brothers College for weeks. Yeah, it's been ENTIRELY sold out for at least a couple of weeks. Geez.

I'm also less than thrilled that the candy went up by another five cents for the start of the semester. Did the soda price go up as well?

While the candy prices have gotten insane, the soda has stayed at the same price for a while now. Not that there is any soda to be purchased, much of the time.

I also love how they'll sometimes put two columns of the same snack in, and then stagger between two different snacks in another column. Maybe they had too much of one and not enough of the other when restocking, and maybe I'm giving them too much credit...

Of course, there is that soda fund that's gone untapped this semester. Some people were thinking the Software Support Specialist should do something about that.

Sometimes it's hard for the Software Support Specialist to find parking near his local supermarket, but he'll try.

Why doesn't Drew just get sponsored by Red Bull?

Or at least Sobe.

Sobe is tasty.

*drools*

We used to get Jolt and Crank2o in the Snack Bar.

Those were the days, I tell you.

John D. Holcomb 09-27-2005 04:19 PM

MMMMMMMMMM, Jolt Cola.

John D. Holcomb 09-28-2005 12:45 PM

The cigar place downtown used to have a decent selection of Jolt, including all of the different flavors, but stopped last I checked. Some 7-11s and QuickCheks have been known to carry it.

Paul R. Coen 09-28-2005 11:01 PM

Does Bagel Chateau still carry "standard" Jolt? They used to.

Yeah, but the cream cheese chin strap gets annoying quickly.

Finally, weeks after I made this post about the vending machine being sold out for weeks, it was refilled today.

So the soda machine was filled, it had time to get completely drained of all sodas (even the less popular brands), weeks went by before I posted, and then a month LATER it gets restocked. Great.

If you think that's bad.. wait until janterm and summer. They take even longer to fill the machine.. :)

10-24-2005 10:36 PM

so...basically, they don't fill it during janterm?

I'd think they'd want to, though, as they're making money off it...meh.

what about the machine in HS 4 on the bio wing? That at least doesnt run out nearly as much as the one in BC (of course not as many people know about it). If both of them get empty and go for weeks w/o restock, I can see a real problem w/ working there over the winter. I may be bored off my ass and going broke day by day, but at least I have access to soda at all time.....:D

Well, they do now.

of course, not many people read community, so we're good.

sadly true, sadly true.

However, I did not identify exactly where it is, so for the lazy observer, they might feel the need to poke around the bio floor looking for it.

10-24-2005 11:28 PM

...and, by "bio floor," you mean "the arboretum."

</deceptive>

of course, where else can you best study biology? It came at a price though, I hear it was a bitch to get the arboretum wired.

10-24-2005 11:47 PM

and to lug that coke machine out there. It was freakin' heavy.

Actually it was a pepsi machine, but it was camoflaged to fit in with the enviroment, much like most of the labs in the arboretum. I really must give the DUDS people credit, the buildings are so well hidden, you can walk through and never know you were being constantly observed for security reasons.

wow, it was camouflaged really well, because it totally looked like a coke machine!

Well it shouldnt be that surprising considering the monopoly that Pepsi has on this campus, really its their way of getting more people. Lots of pepsi machines which are clearly marked as such, and other machines which are camouflaged as coke machines (to draw in the non-believers).
It would be a great marketing ploy if it wasnt blatantly illegal, which is why you must never speak of this again. Otherwise you might find yourself in the arboretum late at night, and out of no where, people will show up and start throwing shaken up Mountain Drews at you. That much agitation makes the drink explosive like a hand grenade.

10-26-2005 03:57 PM

This thread makes me lol.

I am now going to HS to steal all of your soda.

Kevin P. Egan 10-26-2005 05:31 PM

Hmmmm, which HS? The real Hall of Sciences is in the Arboretum, the other one is just a card board cut out. If you really do wish to search the card board cut out, thats your choice, but remember, there are real consequence to your actions. For one thing, it will make vader say NOOOOOOOO.

Main Street Submarines has a massive beverage selection including Jolt.
