Uploading files via webfiles.drew.edu
I have often used webfiles.drew.edu to work with files from home. Usually I have no problem uploading files, but lately, I often get the following error message:

The user name or password you entered for area “DREW” on netstorage.drew.edu:443 was incorrect. Make sure you’re entering them correctly, and then try again.

I know that my info is not incorrect, because I am often simultaneously logged into Moodle or my email and that works fine. Moreover, when I actually enter my Drew login and password in the boxes that appear below this error note, that information is not accepted.

I'm not sure why the Netstorage/Webfiles interface isn't working for you. While CNS addresses that issue, see if the other file access system, DocXchanger, works for you instead:


It's possible that the issue you're experiencing with Netstorage/Webfiles will also affect your ability to access DocXchanger, but it's worth trying so that you will be able to continue to work. DocXchanter's interface is a bit different, but it functions the same way.

If you log in via http://www.drew.edu/home and then click on the DocXchanger link in the Remote Access block in the middle of the page, you should be taken right into the DocXchanger interface.

What will show up are all of the network drives to which you have access - your F: drive will show up first, then each individual class in your K: drive folder, then your G: drive, and finally the P:, O:, and U: drives. Look in the (vertical) center of the page and you will see the names of these so that you can easily identify them.

There is also a way to install a version of DocXchanger on your laptop so that you can drag/drop multiple files at a time.

This could work as an interim solution for you until CNS can get to the root of your issue.

That's odd. It just worked for me. It's possible it was a transient error.

What kind of computer were you using, and what browser?

A new Mac, and browsing with Safari.

But that's the weird thing, Mike. It's completely intermittent for me as well. In fact, last night, I had actually already downloaded and uploaded files when it quit working. I tried restarting everything too, including a complete reset of the browser, and that made no difference.

I will try the other option though. I don't really feel compelled to use netstorage, I just need something that will work.

Mac access to u-drive files
I like to use Fetch ftp client (free to academic users) with ftp://nwftp.drew.edu/ to access my files . It has the nifty feature of letting you edit files which it takes care of downloading and uploading in the background when you save them. Plus it has the cool dog cursor (and is an old hand in the Mac world)!

(BTW, Mike, CIFS works fine for me, maybe even a bit snappier than afp when in the office.)

It's true--a good FTP client that does SFTP works well. I've been using WinSCP from home most of the time. Here's our page on SFTP with some client recommendations.

No, that's great! I own it, too, and am slowly collecting all 50 original issues.
