Forwarding All Old Mail
my mailbox is storing a lot of old emails, and in order to make room for new ones, is there a way to download the old emails? I know I can forward new emails as they are sent to me, but I was wondering if I could save the old ones onto my personal computer.
Is there a way to forward all old messages?
Or forward all selected messages?
or retroactively apply a rule to all messages?
or retroactively apply a rule to all messages of a folder?
Benjamin, it sounds like you're running out of space in your mailbox, is that right? The problem may not be old emails in your inbox, but that you haven't actually emptied the trash in a while. Your email trash folder does not delete items automatically - you have to do it manually.
In Webmail, click on the Trash folder in the Table of Contents, select all the messages in the Trash (by checking the box at the top), and then click on the Empty Trash button.
If you're using the installed client from the desktop of your Drew laptop, just right-click on the Trash icon in the Table of Contents and select "Empty Trash."
We'll look into your question about batch forwarding in case emtying the trash doesn't solve your problem.

You can use this method from Novell's site. All you have to do is:
1) Hold down the Ctrl key and select the emails you want to forward (or use Ctrl+A to select all if you already know you want all of your emails).
2) Click Actions > Forward as Attachment
3) Fill out necessary fields like username and subject to send the messages in an email.
If you set up a rule in Groupwise to forward new emails to another account, you'll still need to clean out your sent and inbox folders regularly, as the emails will still be there. Instructions for doing that can be found in the DONUT pages. Hope that helps.

You are likely to run into problems with this approach, since you may end up sending a message that is rejected either by our mail server, or the remote mail server because it is too large.
If you are forwarding e-mail to a site that supports Imap access (for example, a gmail.com mailbox), you'd be better off using a mail client that supports Imap access (for example, Mozilla Thunderbird or Outlook Express), and then configuring it to connect to both your Drew mailbox and to other mailbox. At that point, you can move messages from one mailbox to the other by dragging and dropping messages (Note: you can't drag and drop a whole mail folder; you will need to select messages in a folder on one mailbox and then move to the other mailbox).

thanks everyone, I did those things and so it forwards now without a problem... but like you all said it would be, the old emails are still in the drew mailbox after they are forwarded.. How can I set up a rule to delete them from the drew mailbox a) after they are forwarded or b) after they become older than...
I see that some of you suggested IMAP access, but I am trying to make reading my emails easy, by forwarding them all, directly or indirectly, to the same mailbox, so that I only have to look in one place to read all of my emails and I only have to log in to each separate email service to send emails from the address.

I'm in https://webmail.drew.edu a/k/a Novell Gropupwise Web Access. Selecting all is simple but I don't see "Actions > Forward as Attachment."
Can you help? TIA.
I don't think "Forward as Attachment" is an option in WebAccess. You have to download the Groupwise client to do that. However, if you are trying to forward a bunch of mail, your best option is to download an IMAP client like Scott suggested earlier so you can drag your emails between your two mailboxes.
