DHP students ok after Honduran earthquake
For updates, check: http://www.groups.drew.edu/honduras/

On May 28 at 2.25 am local time an earthquake of 7.3 magnitude occurred off the northern coast of Honduras, about 80 miles from La Ceiba, where Drew students were staying as they volunteered at Helping Honduras Kids (HHK) in nearby Agua Caliente. A second quake measuring 4.6 followed 42 minutes later (see http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/Quakes/us2009heak.php). The quakes occurred about 6 miles below the ocean floor along a faultline to the north of Honduras. A tsunami watch was announced, but it was cancelled a few hours later. There have been several aftershocks along the faultlines to the north and to the south of Honduras, and one inland near La Ceiba, all in the 4.3-4.6 range, but there has been remarkably little damage or injury and the students reported no visible damage in La Ceiba or Agua Caliente. We continue to monitor the situation, but there have been no aftershocks since shortly after midnight on Saturday, May 30th.
On Saturday morning the group moved to a second children's home an hour north of Tegucigalpa as planned. They arrived safely and will remain there until June 5th, when they will return to San Pedro Sula, departing for the US on Saturday June 6th.

Thanks to everyone who expressed concern.
