Baseball (Mets, National league, whatever)
I encourage everybody who has anything to say about baseball to say it! I'm a big Mets fan (points at avatar), and I think they aren't going to the postseason this year. They're in a series against the Braves right now, and it would be fantastic if they could win 3 of 4 (but tonight, with Smoltz versus Glavine for the Mets, I just don't know). Lets' go Mets!

Yeah I'm a Yankees fan. I really thought this team wasn't going to compete this year, but now that they beat the Red Sox to move 1 1/2 games back, my hopes are up a bit.

And then the 1-17 game...ouch.

Now the orioles are ahead of the Yankees.

I don't know how good they are, because I only follow baseball when nothing else is on tv.

Woohoo Nats!

Hey, the Mets took 2 of 4 from the Braves this weekend, and there they are again, at .500. I went to two of the games, both of which they lost, ironically. However, I did show up early enough to the Friday night game and got a baseball from a Braves pitcher during batting practice, and it was a gorgeous night with free food in the picnic area, so I can't complain too much. It's too bad though, because the Mets don't seem to be good enough to justify selling the farm to try to compete now, but they're also not bad enough to justify trading away their major league talent like Mike Cameron. I don't envy Omar Minaya at this point...

Yeah Minaya is in a bad position. It's a tough call. He does need to get some pitching help though. I don't think that Glavine has much to left to offer. Benson and Zambrano are going to be good, but not right now. Pedro seems to be the only sure thing on that pitching staff. On a lighter note, the Yankees were able to get Leiter from the Marlins and he pitched real well against the Red Sox, so now the Yankees are 1/2 game behind the Red Sox. It's been a pretty exciting season. Only one division has a huge gap between the first and second place team and that's the National League Central Division.

Honestly, I would love to see the Mets send Glavine packing, either to the Red Sox (Glavine is from Boston) for catching prospect Kelly Shoppach (whom the BoSox don't need with Varitek and Mirabelli) or to Texas for their first base prospect Adrian Gonzalez (whom they don't need because they have Mark Teixera). I don't know if either Texas or Boston would go for that unless the Mets took a very large portion of Glavine's contract and added a prospect as well. I think Glavine would be absolutely destroyed in the AL with the generally stronger lineups found there (DHs hit better than pitchers!), but I doubt Minaya would say that to whatever team looks to take him on. Can't hurt to try!
