Network drives not visible
 
This isn't a new problem, it just hasn't been a problem to me until now. Basically when I login under the Novell Login, and go to My Computer there are no network drives.
Network discovery is on, as well as file sharing (if that would restrict the viewing).
As far as I know, I haven't disabled any service which would affect networking.

Well....I'm running through the ad.drew.edu network that's accessed via the ethernet cable plugged into the walls of the dorm :/

You can be logged into the Active Directory domain (ad.drew.edu or DREW-AD), but if you're not logged into the Novell environment as well, you're not going to see the mapped drives.

If you've got XP and you have "workstation only" checked at the login dialog or you have the "Off campus" vs "On campus" option selected, you can easily have this happen. On Vista, you've got to make sure you've selected the "Novell Login" credential provider when logging in, and not the Microsoft one.

I'm running Vista, and I'm logging in through the Novell Login :confused:

You're right, this is a common issue with the Vista machines. There's no rhyme or reason to it - sometimes you just get bumped off the network. What you can do is right click on the Novell icon (the red "N") in the tray at the bottom of the desktop. Click on Login, then log in to the network normally. You should be able to see the network drives after that.

The drives are visible, at least some of them. Not the K: drive though, the one I need to use for this class.

I've noticed that I do have access to https://netstorage.drew.edu/NetStorage/

Is this effectively the same thing?

NetStorage lets you access your network drives using a browser, from any computer, from anywhere on the internet. You can use it to get to the K: drive and download files for class but it is not as good/fast as using the K: drive directly.

It is not normal for your K: drive not to map. You should contact the CNS Helpdesk and work through some troubleshooting with them on the problem. Do you have a P: drive? That will have the SP2009 folder in it, and it is the same thing as the K: drive which merely shows the contents of the current semester's folder.

I would be curious if you can manually map it. What happens if you right click on the N in the taskbar, choose Novell Map Network Drive, select K: and then for the path of the resource type "\\CAUSEWAY_P\Courses\SP2009". Enter the path exactly as shown without the quotes, and make sure to use backslashes \ instead of forward slashes /. Check the box "Check to make folder appear at top-most level" and then click OK. Any error messages? or do you get a K: drive in My Computer?

That is very interesting. Seems to suggest we have a problem running some commands in the login script.

Mind trying the following?

At the login screen, click on Advanced (I don't have a Vista machine in front of me, but on those, I think there is a link called "Advanced login" under the password box that does the same thing--only shows up if you are at the Novell login provider and not the Windows-only one).

Go to the Scripts tab and uncheck Close Automatically. This will keep any messages from the login script on the screen after it executes.

Go ahead and log in. You should see a Results dialog at some point that shows the output of the login script running. You should see it mapping drives and any error messages that appear. Go ahead and copy and paste those results here.
