Free Hamburgers!

Hello, everyone. I'm Benjamin H. Chmielinski, from Massachusetts. And I want to know: who wants to start the year off right with a good old-fashioned Hamburger Social?

Here's the plan. We bring meat and bread and condiments and beverages and coal and maybe chairs to the grills behind the dorms. Then we set about grilling, because too many people just don't realize that grilled is the only real way to eat meat. Then we continue to grill and eat until everybody leaves. It's brilliant in its simplicity.

So if you're interested, reply, and say whether you'd be willing to bring something. If enough people do, we can start discussing a date and time.

I can't believe how excited I am by this idea.

What if you only want to eat like two burgers? Do you have to eat really slowly?

Golbanou Tabatabaie 06-24-2006 02:48 PM

I think they have a free BBQ for you guys anyways though....

mind you it's Aramark food.....

*shrugs*

A simple barbeque is no Hamburger Social. It's all about attitude.

At a Hamburger Social, bacon-steaks are occasionally served.

And the beauty of the Social is that you come, you eat, you stay, you leave whenever, and maybe you come back and do it over again. More than a simple social gathering, the successful Social, once begun, takes on the characteristics of an elemental force.

Golbanou Tabatabaie 06-25-2006 02:38 PM

Well fine. I may just crash it then.....:p

06-25-2006 03:27 PM

let's not get all meat-crazed, people. we must remember our vegetarian friends... like me! :p

I agree. I was a little skeptical at first, but I began to like the "elemental force" bit.

You can subscribe to the thread, so you'll get an email when someone posts in it. Either use the dropdown box when you post a comment, or use the "thread tools" menu to subscribe.

*I went to drew for an overnight stay, and attended a "SOCIAL" bbq...'twas fun!!!!!!!!!

06-28-2006 02:37 AM

It's finally official!

Our roster includes myself on meat, Cheryl on bread, Erin on soda, and Andy on coal. Also, possibly Raven on slushies and Lara on tofu.

Since all the pieces are now in place, we must set a date and time!

...Any suggestions?

06-28-2006 05:34 PM

Thanks

Okay I will definitely subscribe to the thread and great when should we do this hamburger social???? Is someone bringing cheese for cheese burgers???

06-28-2006 08:59 PM

Veggies and cheese are both extremely important.

As to the time and date... does anyone know of a particular day where there are maybe 6 hours of nothing happening?

Michelle Gbelama 06-28-2006 11:05 PM

Without knowing anything about the schedule this year, in past years (one year of going through orientation, and 3 years being on the committee) there werent any 6 hour blocks of free time during Orientation, even on the last day. Again though, I have no idea what they have planned for you this year.

06-30-2006 11:35 AM

i will bring the cheese. just tell me when.

All are welcome to try their hand at the grilling, the most sacred part of the Hamburger Social.

Questions: Is Labor Day considered a part of Orientation? Do Orientation events happen?

Ashley R. Scott 06-30-2006 09:30 PM

I found the preliminary orientation schedule. It's there ---> http://groups.drew.edu/oc/index_file...onSchedule.htm

07-01-2006 01:35 AM

Very well. It seems that the first week at Drew is too busy for a Hamburger Social.

So, I have decided that the date for this auspicious event shall be Saturday, September 9th. This is the first weekend after classes begin. It will begin at 1:00pm, and continue indefinitely.

I hope that the setting of an official date will encourage everyone to plan to attend!

07-02-2006 01:30 AM

Now that we have a date....

How should we advertise this so everyone will come and say hey??? Should we do a facebook thingy or what let me know.

07-02-2006 03:15 AM

I could be into this. I can bring ketchup/catsup

so, yea! FACEBOOK IT~

Jonathan R. Eng 07-02-2006 08:56 PM

Sweet I love hamburgers. Lemme know if the date changes.

07-02-2006 10:22 PM

Facebook will do for now; more will be done later.

I, too, have created a Facebook event for the Social. Mine is Open, no need to wait for me to invite.

Everyone who wants to can go search for the Hamburger Social under my name and list themselves as guests. Even better, get your friends to do the same!

Sounds great. But how do we get to your facebook page to invite ourselves?

Search for "Benjamin Chmielinski" or "Hamburger Social" on Facebook. The event should come up.

07-04-2006 07:49 PM

Facebook

Also if you are a transfer student like I was you have to join the drew network and then you can find it.

08-19-2006 01:43 PM

All right!

The time has come to start getting ready in earnest for the Hamburger Social on Saturday, September 9th! Anyone who hasn't already should head to http://drew.facebook.com/event.php?eid=2204752723 and RSVP. Everyone is welcome!

I'll be supplying the meat for this event, and as it last stood, Cheryl Hackett was bringing buns, Erin Carroll had soda duty, Andy Benavides was on coal, and Mei Zheng had offered us cheese. If anyone can no longer bring their item, please let us know. If your plans haven't changed, please let us know anyway, just so we don't have to worry.

Finally, everyone feel free to raise questions, comments, and suggestions!

I look forward to seeing you all later this month.

08-19-2006 07:49 PM

Where did this thread come from? I've been here for a while and I never saw this, haha.

I don't know why, but the fact that you keep bolding Hamburger Social is really cracking me up.
