Default SJP Presents:kashmir to Palestine: Parallels between India & Israel On Wed at 6:00pm

Join us on April 22 at 6:00pm in LC 28 to compare the struggles for freedom from military occupation in Kashmir and Palestine. Both India and Israel are considered bastions for democracy by the US in their respective geographies. The event outlines how statehood and nationalism has enforced oppressive military occupations in these localities and multiple sites around the world. At the event we have two native Kashmiri speakers who share their research and study on Kashmir and Palestine.

Hafsa Kanjwal is a PhD candidate in History and Women's Studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her research is on the social and cultural history of Kashmir after Partition. Hafsa received her B.A. from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and has been published in Jadaliyya, Al Jazeera English, Foreign Policy, and On Faith at the Washington Post.

Inshah Malik is a fourth year doctoral student at the Center for Comparative Politics and Political Theory, School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her research focuses on political struggles and the question of agency of Muslim women in the post-colonial conflict site of Kashmir. She has been actively engaged in public writing and internet-activism on issues of militarism, human
rights, women's rights and larger political self-determination rights of various people in South Asia with a particular focus on Kashmir. She has also featured in the Christian Science Monitor.
