well, TECHNICALLY the use of "an" is based on pronunciation, not spelling. even though the word "LJ" might start with a consonant, the actual phoneme starts with a mid front vowel. therefore, as written language is secondary to spoken language, and "an" always preceedes vowels, "a LJ" would indeed be incorrect by the standard grammar of english
