Talking Welcome

Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.

My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you…
Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.

- Psalm 63: 4-5, 7 from New International Version

Welcome Drewids to the Shadow of His Wings (WHOS) Forum! First off, a big thanks should go to Carolyn Nasuti for remembering WHOS when she suggested there be forums for all the a capella groups on campus and to E. Axel Larsson for creating the WHOS forum; it’s much appreciated.

WHOS is Drew’s Premier Christian A Capella group. We’ve been in operation for almost an entire school year and already we've performed at such events as The Festival of Lights, Concert of Worship (fondly acronymed COW), both of the End of Classes Jam’s this past school year, as well as hosting our own a capella concert—with all three other groups attending—entitled Existing in Harmony.

Our mission is to glorify and praise God by spreading His compassionate
message in a fun and contemporary manner in order to keep faith alive on campus. To that end, all constructive feedback in this forum is encouraged; we’ve had a wild ride this past year and would like to hear what you guys think (but please be nice! ). We could not have accomplished what we did this year without your support and determination to have the voice of WHOS heard on campus. So let’s keep the good vibes rolling, shall we?

So… questions? Comments?

P.S. To the Class of 2009: Welcome to Drew! We’re very excited to meet you all come fall and hope that some of you might be interesting in singing with us. Of course, this also applies to the other Classes, but seeing as how you’ve a year’s head start, it seems only fair to give the CLA ’09 a fighting chance.

Hey WHOS!
I'm really excited about getting back next semester. We are going to have a great year, and I've got some good ideas for some new songs!

I'm excited for this year too-- oh, baby! Miss you all so much! Maybe this year we'll make it to Gospel Jam in the spring! Maybe we'll be able to host a concert with outside groups! Maybe we'll be able to perform in NYC! Maybe we'll . . . Who knows what's in store?!?

For anyone who is wondering why we started this group last year, I'll share you my personal reasoning for putting so much energy, effort, time and tears into this group:

My parents raised me in the church, however, faith in God and in Jesus Christ is not hereditary. Every person has the opportunity to chose whether or not they believe. John 3:16 says that "For God so loved the world [including all of us], that He gave His only son [Jesus Christ] that everyone who believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life." College is not four years of youthful passions that you will not be held responsible for. After a couple years of college, I love you fellow students and I "care for you so deeply that I am determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also my own self because you have become very dear to me." Part of that comes from 1 Thessalonians 2:8 but it is honestly how I feel for you. Please realize that God is watching. He loves each of you so much. He is not angry, but He is sadden and disappointed when we ignore Him. That is why I started this a cappella group. Of course, I love to sing and perform, but I love God and you all so much more.

With love,
Heather
