![]() When using vpc.drew.edu, FireFox 6.0.2 for Mac saves the little Java Network Launching Protocol file without the jnlp extension. I can just add it back on of course, but it's a hassle.
Anyone else? |

![]() I tried to reproduce your error on my MacBook Pro and I am unable to. What version of Mac OS are you running and which applications are you trying to use in VPC?

![]() 10.6.8 and any of them. Chrome does it too. Safari doesn't.

I had a similar problem. My mac kept trying to open Dreamweaver for Java programs. See Adding download actions in this article for instructions of fixing that in ff. If you need additional help with this feel free to message me. http://goo.gl/5fpP2 Kristopher Sullivan Blog: kristophersullivan.com kris@kristophersullivan.com Last edited by Kristopher E. ![]() Kristopher,
Thanks for the suggestion. My problem though is that FF doesn't save the file with the right extension. I don't quite understand why it's doing this, since Safari and Chrome (both based on WebKit, I know) have no problem. I've moved back to Safari for now, so it's not urgent, but it is still annoying. |

When I reproduced the problem on a STEL Mac, it appeared to append .aspx to the file. |

I get the same result on my mac pro at home. I also noticed that Firefox does the same thing on windows it just associates the file with java web starter by default whereas OSX will try to open it with another program. For the time being I'd recomend using a batch rename file if the .aspx extension is the problem. Namechanger 2 works well for the mac and I believe it is free. If it is just a problem of java web start not starting when you download the file you just need to tell the computer to associate that file type with java web start on the mac. I believe there is a Firefox plugin to ultimately correct this and I am looking into it. Last edited by Kristopher E. Sullivan : 09-20-2011 at 03:41 PM. |

![]() It actually doesn't append .aspx, it leaves it on there. On Safari I get both extensions.
Using a batch renamer is a bit of overkill, since I only download one of these files at a time. I could set up a folder action on my downloads folder, but instead I've switched back to Safari. I'd call this a bug in Firefox, and something that others might see. Are the new freshmen computers doing this? |

Every computer windows mac or linux that I have encountered does it. It seems that windows or Firefox on windows just knows how to deal with the file even though it has the .aspx extension following it. There is probably a plug in or extension that fixes this problem (or we could write one). But with other browsers not encountering this problem for the time being I think the best solution is to just use another browser to download those files. I wouldn't call it a bug I think Firefox is working the way its supposed to it just may need to be configured in a different way to fix this problem. I will keep an eye out on the Mozilla user groups for any solutions. |
