Since 1993, more than 576 women have been murdered and more than 600 have disappeared in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Women of Sand collects the stories/testimonies of four women (a mother, a daughter, a cousin and a young murdered woman) victims of the femicide that continues to plague the city. Intermingling poetry with reports from the ground, the play showcases the inaction of the Mexican government to stop, eradicate and prevent these crimes. The play has been performed by more than 40 groups in Latin America, Europe and the United States.

Sponsored by the Spanish Department, Theatre Arts Department, Ariel, La Casa Latina, The Alliance, Earth House, and The Office of Student Activities

This staged reading is part of SPAN 117/THEA 165: Theatre for Social Justice in the Hispanic World: Style, Performance & Production
