Ranger Bears

Has anyone else ever wondered why we are the Ranger Bears? I mean aren't Rangers and Bears two separate entities? Rangers are people, bears are animals??? Any theories out there???

It is supposed to be a bear that performs the job functions of a ranger. Think of how a Guard Dog would be a dog that performs the job functions of a guard even though guards and dogs are seperate entities.

I had a long post written out for this, but then my Firefox extensions crapped out on me and Firefox crashed.

well, no one else has "ranger bear." So we're original that way. I mean, how many colleges have the same mascot?

Well Smoky the Bear was a Forest Ranger and a bear.

That's true. If I had been thinking, I would've qualified it to be "no other college has the Ranger Bear as its mascot."

but I didn't.

And, apparently, his name is just Smokey Bear. Who knew? Not me.
