Default Protection from viruses?

Does anyone use a anti-virus protection on their laptops?
I got the "Antivirus xp 2008" virus recently, but I was lucky enough to be able to remove it manually.
I was wondering if anyone used Norton or something like that...or is the Windows Defender & F-Prot enough?

Actually, the current verison of F-Prot you likely has has some limitations. We couldn't push the new version out last spring (technical problems with both F-Prot -since fixed, and the new Novell Zenworks Configuration Management product - somewhat fixed). The new Zenworks version is a prereq for the F-Prot update in our environment for logistical reasons. I'm hoping to make some announcements about this once the semester starts.

I want to get through the first week or so, and make sure the new Zenworks infrastructure works well before I have people start to use it en masse. The incoming student computers will be using it (they have to - the old Zenworks doesn't support Vista). Anyway, the new F-Prot is substantially better.

When the Windows Defender beta program ended, those with the program installed received an "Application failed to initialize:" error instead of a notice that the product was out of beta. If you re-install Windows Defender the problem is corrected. You can find the installer on our helpdesk folder by navigating to O:\atops\public\windowsdefender.msi
