Thumbs up The New Student Record

If you haven’t already ordered the New Student Record there isn’t much time left to do so. If you are still deciding, allow me to point out perhaps the most useful aspect of it. During Orientation week you meet a LOT of people in a relatively short span of time. In fact, you meet so many people that most first years find it pretty much impossible to remember the names of very many of them. This is where the Record comes in handy. Just break out your copy, flip through until you find their picture, and you can avoid a lot of those awkward “Uh….what did you say your name was again?” situations. It also contains a lot of useful information, like the hours of the commons and phone numbers of places in town. So if you are still on the fence, I would definitely recommend it!

actually... the facebook will probably be even more useful than the record now. in the past I would have recommended the record for sure, but now it might be easier to find people on the facebook along with a whole lot more information... I guess not everyone will be on facebook, but not everyone is in the record either.

I don't plan on being in either.

True, but not for the purpose I described. Facebook doesnt help much if you can't remember someone's name. Nor does it help with all the other helpful information that is in the Record.

I found mine really useful, even just at night to look through to remember who I talked to, and keep names straight. Because you meet so many people, it's nice to have a reference. Especially if you're bad at matching names with faces, as I am.

Default record

I'm not going to be in it either, I agree that the facebook makes more sense (and can't you scroll pics by searching through the class of 09?)

Yes, but a lot of people don't put clear pictuers of themselves as their facebook pictures. With the record, however, everyone does.

it helps a lot with those first few days and provides loads on entertainment months later when you're good friends with people and find their old high school pictures...believe me

People saying facebook are most likely talking about http://www.thefacebook.com which is sort of like myspace only college specific. Though in the past the New Student Directory was sometimes called the facebook.
