Default Screen blacks out

Whenever I am watching movies on my laptop or videos that I have taken, the screen would just randomly turn black and I would have to reboot.
What is going on and how do I prevent this from happening?

I had the same problem, recently, although mine was much worse. I was watching a movie on gametrailers.com, and my computer screen went blank. I rebooted it, but the Lenovo screen, let alone the Windows screen, never showed up. I brought it to CNS, and they said that my computers harddrive may have been attacked by a Virus. It is now in queue, has been for a week, probably for one more week. I'm still not certain if I'll get my computer back by that time, though.

If I were you, and you still have you're computer in working condition, I would back up your important files and have CNS reimage your computer, before you end up in the same situation I did. They can reimage it quickly, and I don't think you would have to give them your computer for as long as I did (probably for only a few hours, maybe even minutes).

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your advice and I hope things work out for your computer. However I have always been able to reboot it normally and I just had my computer reimaged a week ago

Do you have the latest graphics drivers installed? Check the ThinkVantage System Update.

Thank you!! Is there a specific update I need to have? Otherwise, I just installed the critical update.

You're specifically looking for the "ATI Mobility-RADEON/FIREGL (PCI Express-2)" which should be in the "Recommended Updates" tab in ThinkVantage System Update.

Try that and see if it helps. If it doesn't show up there, or if it doesn't help the problem, there seems to be an even newer version available at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-62841. It's a bit more complicated if you have to install it from the web page, but instructions are there.

This is all assuming you're running the T60 which is the computer you were issued. Otherwise, generic advice on getting the latest video drivers from your system manufacturer applies.
