So my computer won't start and it keeps saying Fan Error when I try to turn it on. How do I fix it?

Hey Robin...bad news...I had that on my computer and I had to get the entire fan replaced before it would work again....I didn't take it to CNS cause it happened this summer, so idk how long it would take CNS to fix it...lol.

The fan error occurs when the computer checks the CPU and Graphics chip cooling fan on startup. It checks whether the fan is spinning fast enough. So in most cases, the fan is not spinning and it will not cool the computer sufficiently.

In a small number of cases, the fan might not be replaced because there is an obstruction in the fan, otherwise, it is true that the heatsink and fan will need to be replaced.

You can contact the CNS Helpdesk to see about checking the CPU heatsink/fan.

Hey Robin,
I had the same problem with my Drew computer. If you wait until the fall CNS will be over-loaded with computers and it will take them like a month to fix it. I let them do it because I had already bought my own computer, but you might want to look into getting it fixed on your own. Good luck!

Yeah, you can send it during the summer, I've done it last year when my computer had two critical problems, the fan being one of them. And for both of those, it took them roughly about two weeks to fix and finish.

Send it to Lenovo - you have the insurance through Drew and they will send you a box for free via FedEx and should have it returned to you within 48 hrs...all cost free. That's what I did when my fan broke..I didn't even bother with CNS because it was over the summer and my past experiences with them were not that great. I don't know why Drew doesn't advertise more that Lenovo can take care of any hardware problem for free and in SO little time.

How do I send it through Lenovo? Do you know a number I could call or address I could send it to. That seems like the best bet!

yeah, Lenovo did it that fast for me last summer and was shocked that anyone would deal with CNS since they take much longer. I think the number I called was just a number I found on their website (877-984-4657) and they connect you to the right person. They will send you a box with all the padding you need and it should be back to you really soon with no charge...at least that is how it worked for me. I have a Drew computer from 2005 so I don't know if Drew still took out the same policy with Lenovo now as it did back then.
