Default Really slow internet

So between 9 pm and 2 am the internet to my computer gets really slow. And I know it's because a lot of people are using it then but is there anything that CNS can do about that to make those times more internet friendly?

We can upgrade the internet connection from 100MB to 300MB. We don't have the money for that in the current CNS budget. We have made a budget request for next year that would allow us to upgrade, but until the budget is approved we won't know if we have it or not.

We're completely saturating the inbound connection during those times, and we're already using every technical means we can to get the most out of the existing connection (no single user can hog it).

Kristen, are you using wireless at this time, or are you plugged in with an Ethernet cable?

An Ethernet connection will always be faster and more reliable. Be aware that some computer models will default to wireless even when plugged in with an Ethernet cable. To avoid this, switch the wireless radio button on the front end of your laptop to the OFF position (no green should be showing) and then restart or log in with the Ethernet connection.

That's generally true (in the residence halls, anyway), but in this case I'm pretty sure it's not going to help much. We've got traffic data that shows the internet connection is just getting hammered starting in the evening and then dropping off after 2am or so. If everyone uses a wired connection, it's just a fatter pipe to the same choke point.
