Default Google Desktop Search

Hi all.
I've just installed Google Desktop, and I get the following error page whenever I try to use either google desktop or the any of its features:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://127.0.0.1:4664/&s=HF0fzZhmdwKdPFy0tEsNJsI6-90&q=
The following error was encountered:
  • Connection Failed
The system returned:
(111) Connection refused The remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone else had this type of issue when using google desktop? does anyone know why this would be happening?

GDS does not work if you are using a proxy server. It is trying to access the URL "127.0.0.1" which is your machine's local address. Since your web traffic is going through the proxy, that translates to trying to access a web server running on the proxy, rather than your desktop.

In the meantime, you could turn of the proxy. I'll see if we can alter the .pac file to specifically exclude localhost and 127.0.0.1.

OK.. try it now.. I alerted the proxy's PAC to exclude 127.0.0.1, localhost, and localhost.localdomain.
