It's because AIM is based off of Internet Explorer, which is automatically blocked on the wireless. All you have to do is open IE when you're using the wireless, then go to any website other than the Drew homepage. It'll ask you for your username and password. Type it in, and once it logs you in, you're all set. You might want to keep the browser open while using AIM just in case.

As for iTunes, I'm really not sure. It may or may not be the same issue. I remember last year it was acting slow a few times, even when I was using my ethernet cable, but now it seems to work fine.

As Jennifer said, once you authenticate you'll be fine. This is true of any wireless access on campus. Once your computer is logged on it will stay connected as long as there's activity on the connection.

We're working on improving the interface for doing this.

...wow. don't reformat your hard drive. That's not even close to being an appropriate way to fix an AIM problem. Listen to Mike though, he knows what he's talking about.

you can also use the drew guest to log on -- that way you don't have to go through drew's authentication.
