Evolution Mail with Groupwise

I'm trying to get my Evolution Mail client running on Ubuntu 10.xx to connect directly with the GW server (not through IMAP, as I want the address book). It keeps telling me it failed to authenticate, even though I know my credentials are accurate. My current settings are:

Server: gwpo.drew.edu
SOAP Port: 1677
Auth type: Password
Security: SSL

I've also tried with the security set to TLS and None, but neither of those work either, and yield the same results. Thanks for any help, guys.

The SOAP port is 7191, not 1677, which is the regular GroupWise client port. Try that.

Worked great for establishing a connection, but it takes about 72 hours to update my bloody mailbox. Looks like I'll be on WebAccess after all. Thanks for your help, though!

Oh, by the way, someone should update the Uknow page for GroupWise, then. The port given on the page says 1677 instead of the default 7191. I'd do it myself, but I'd rather let someone higher up in ITS do it in case I'm misunderstanding why it's like that. Here's a link:

Can you set Evolution to not cache a local copy of your mailbox on the machine? Then it won't try to download the entire thing and you won't have to wait for 72 hours.

1677 is the stanard GroupWise client/server port, which is used by the "official" GroupWise clients (Windows, Mac, Linux).

7191 is the SOAP port, used by third-party software that integrates with GroupWise.

We'll think about adding a specific set of settings for people using Novell Evolution. Not sure yet if we want to go that route, as I am not sure if anyone is actively developing on the Evolution side of things and how well it works.

Just an update: After that initial sync, it's just about as fast as push email (to the point where I can't tell the difference), and it's actually working quite well.

Also, Evolution Mail is still being actively developed both by Novell and the open source community...apparently 3.0 is in the works as we speak (or 2.34, but let's not get into software version nomenclature...Java, anyone?).

That's also an interesting note about the ports...I'll make note of that. Thanks everyone.
