Please see this document, however note that Drew does not gaurentee delivery of mail that is forwarded in this manner and that you are still responsible for receiving mail from your professors and staff.

It is our policy to strongly discourage the use of automatic mail forwarding. We have had numerous instances where users have set up auto-forwarding and then start marking mail they recieve as spam, causing Drew to be blocked from sending mail to those sites. This has been a particular problem for us with AOL.

I feel you, haha.

I think there's a cutoff at eight letters. "JDiLoren" is kind of weird, too.

It's an eight character limit. Unfortunately, that's a limit imposed upon us by some older systems on campus that we can't change at the moment, despite the fact that other systems would let us have longer usernames.

you also get about eighteen million emails a day on your drew account. i've found it's better to just leave it all there and use my gmail account for non-school related things.

If we're going to get into the drew mail debate I just have to point out that Basil Utter is far ahead of all of you and your username complaints...

I also know people that have set up a rule in Groupwise to just send all emails going to alldrew@drew.edu to a special folder, and then they just go through those emails once a week or so.

Going back some time ago, there was also Jen Christ and Sarah Lutz. Luckily, both had a sense of humor about it. There have been cases where we've moved to the second tier username (including the middle initial as well) if it spelled something that they objected to (not just they didn't like it, but it was actually something rude and they wanted it changed).

We've talked about changing the namespace we're using, but we haven't quite come up with something that works well going forward, meets current needs, and people would actually think was OK. And would work well acrossa variety of software and systems, etc.
