The System Idle Process wouldn't be what's causing the machine to overheat and shutdown. It literally represents the machine's idle time. It's normal for the machine to be over 90% idle when looking at the task manager. It is all the time not accounted for by an actual process that is running.
The Performance tab in Task Manager should show the actual CPU usage, which should be a much lower figure.
