Network Security Key

I am trying to install a new printer on my laptop. The process calls for a network security key. How do I find that information on my laptop?

This could be a lot of things. The most likely one is a the code you use to access your wireless network at home. Many networks are set up with a key that is just a password or passphrase you enter in to your laptop or other device to connect to the network. If you did that with your laptop, then you probably got the code from whoever configured your wireless network. That's the code you should enter in to your printer. If you didn't enter a code, you might be able to leave the field blank--but I think it only would ask for it if it needs it.

Does this help? If this isn't it, try and give us a little more information on where this code is coming up, and what kind of printer it is, and whether you're trying to connect it wirelessly, and we can take it from there.

Any chance this is a bluetooth wireless printer, rather than 802.11b/g/n wifi?

Thanks to both of you and apologies for my delayed reply. I was trying to establish a wireless connection. In the interest of time I resorted to using the cable rather than the wireless. The second reply goes way beyond my technical know how. I have no idea what kind of wireless system I was playing with.
