Exclamation New Anti-virus software upgrade available for non-Vista, Drew-issued computers

There is a new version of our anti-virus software, F-Prot, available for Drew-issued computers. The upgraded F-Prot detects recent viruses, and provides substantially better protection. But to upgrade F-Prot you must first upgrade the Zenworks software (which provides the Application Explorer folder). We are holding off on forcing this out on every computer automatically - that would inconvenience everyone far more than allowing you to choose when you run it. We aren't going to be able to put it off much longer. Please do not interrupt a Zenworks or F-Prot installation, whether it's triggered by you or launches automatically on a future date. That could have unpredictable results.

Please call the CNS Helpdesk at x3205 or send email to helpdesk@drew.edu if you have any questions after reviewing this message. Please note: those with Windows Vista Notebooks or Tablets can ignore the installation instructions and just perform the system scan. You already have both the upgraded Zenworks and F-Prot. We do recommend you follow the instructions at the bottom to perform a complete system scan.

The F-Prot upgrade is important, and the Zenworks upgrade is a prerequisite.

Some computers that have been reimaged recently already have the upgraded Zenworks and F-Prot. To be sure, locate the Application Explorer icon on the Windows desktop. If the icon image looks like a flat-panel computer monitor, you already have the new Zenworks. If when you open up the Application Explorer icon (regardless of appearance) and see an icon labeled Install Software, that confirms that it's the new version. If you see an icon labeled Drew at that level instead, you need to upgrade Zenworks.

If you haven't upgraded Zenworks yet:
  • You must be on-campus
  • We recommend you use a wired network connection
  • Make sure you've logged onto the Windows XP using the "On Campus" network option. You need to access a network drive for the Zenworks installation.
  • Open the "Application Explorer" folder on your desktop
  • Click on Drew and then Install Software
  • Click on the Student 10.1.1 Zenworks Agent. Do not shut down or reboot the computer until prompted to do so.
Once you've upgraded Zenworks, you still must upgrade F-Prot if you haven't already. If you have an F-Prot or Frisk Software Program Group folder under All Programs on the Start menu, rather than just an F-Prot Antivirus for Windows icon under Start > All Programs, you have the old version of F-Prot and you need to upgrade. To confirm this, launch the F-Prot application. If it's a white window with blue across the top, it's the new version. If the F-Prot window has a grey window, it's the old one and you need an upgrade.
  • Close the F-prot window if it's open.
  • Open the Application Explorer and click on Install Software
  • Click on F-Prot for Windows. You will need to reboot at the end of the installation.
To run a complete system scan:
  • Click on Start and select All Programs.
  • Click on F-Prot Antivirus for Windows. Please note that it is a program icon, not a Program Group folder in the All Programs list
  • When the F-Prot window appears, click on Manual scan in the left column of the window.
  • Select Scan My computer. Any USB drives you have attached will be scanned as well. Please do not select Scan Network. That will take hours.
Again, please direct any questions to the CNS Helpdesk at x3205 or at helpdesk@drew.edu

Every time I attempt to install the new version, I get an error message that says "An installation support file could not be installed. The system can not find the file specified." I am on campus and logged into the Drew network.
