Private Voice Lessons

Placement Appointments August 30 through September 8

The Drew University Music Department offers opportunities for ensemble participation and private vocal instruction for students, faculty, staff, and residents of the surrounding areas. Placement appointments begin August 30 for new singers who wish to join Chorale, Choral Union, or Madrigal Singers, or to take private voice lessons. The placement appointment is simply an opportunity for us to get to know you and your voice; it is stress-free, and you do not need to prepare anything in advance. To sign up for a placement appointment, visit the Choral & Vocal Studies bulletin board, located in the Music Wing of the Dorothy Young Center for Arts. Sign-up sheets are available now!

CHORAL UNION (MUS 110): With over 80 members in the last season, the Drew University Choral Union is our largest choir, open to singers of all experience levels including students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. The Choral Union performs 3-4 concerts per year, concluding the season with a choral masterwork at the end of the spring semester. (The spring 2014 masterwork will be the Mozart Requiem.) Rehearsals are Monday nights, 7:00-9:30p.m., beginning September 9.

CHORALE (MUS 215): The Drew University Chorale is our advanced chamber choir. Singers are carefully selected each semester with attention to individual experience and potential, as well as the overall artistic balance of the ensemble. The Chorale maintains a rigorous performance schedule, with several performances each semester and a tour at the end of the academic year. Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00-7:30p.m., beginning September 3. Chorale members also serve as section leaders in the Choral Union.

MADRIGAL SINGERS (MUS 217): The Drew University Madrigal Singers is a vocal chamber ensemble (one voice per part) focusing on unaccompanied repertoire of the Renaissance era. Singers are selected by audition, and are expected to develop facility with languages, music-reading ability, and the musical independence necessary to succeed in a small-ensemble context. Rehearsals are Monday and Friday afternoons, time TBD, beginning September 6.

VOICE LESSONS (MUS 109 or 325): The Music Department offers private vocal instruction at the introductory (MUS 109) and advanced (MUS 325) levels. Singers interested in voice lessons are assigned to private instructors as part of the placement appointment process. An additional fee is assessed for vocal instruction.
